Biogas supply plants are used to feed processed biogas into the natural gas grid.
A biogas supply plant mainly consists of:
- an inflow measurement system including volume conversion for the biogas coming from the biogas processing plant
- an LPG plant for gas to be processed to obtain the desired calorific value—including gas flow metering
- gas quality assessment
- an inflow measurement system including volume conversion for the processed biogas
- odor control equipment
- an ICA control cabinet
The plant will be accommodated in a prefabricated concrete building.
At first, gas quality of the available biogas is measured.
If the biogas does not meet the requirements, it will either be returned to the biogas processing plant or burnt off.
If the biogas meets the requirements, there are two variants:
Variant 1: The gas is processed using LPG and then led to the compressors.
Variant 2: The biogas is fed directly and without any processing to the compressors.
Then, the biogas is compressed to the required delivery pressure. At the plant outlet, the gas quality of the biogas is measured again.
Depending on the gas grid to which it will be fed, odorization at the plant outlet might be necessary. This provides the biogas with its typical natural gas smell.

By default, a hydraulically driven compressor (hydro mechanics) is used. It features very moderate piston speeds and accordingly has only few moving parts. There is no single rotating part inside the entire compressor. The solid, logical, and simple structure of the compressor ensures high maintainability and easy servicing.
What is more, its construction allows processing of gases with very high pressure variations—without the need for pressure regulation and reduction.
Such compressors were developed for the use in CNG refueling stations and have been employed for more than 30 years all over the world. These water-cooled machines always operate with the same reliability, be it in northern regions such as Helsinki or under partly tropical conditions, e.g. in India, Brazil, and Argentina.
